2UE began as a class B radio station in 1925. Electrical Utilities owned the station then. Initially, the station’s studio was in Cecil Stevenson’s home. Most of the equipment they utilized was homemade. Since then, the station has undergone several changes. In 1934, the station was acquired by Associated Newspapers Ltd. It was later on bought by the Lamb family, then Kerry Packer who sold it to Alan Bond. The station also changed its programming. 2UE moved from a news-talk format to the current lifestyle format. Earlier in 2017, the Macquarie Radio Network launched Talking Lifestyle 1278 and Talking Lifestyle 882 in Melbourne and Brisbane respectively.
2UE has several genres of shows. These shows include John and Garry, Roothy’s Australia, Better Living and Home and Holiday. Other shows include Lifestyle Highlights, Second Career, Friday Night Live with the star, The Good Life, Talking Technology, Property Fast Track, On the Money and The Daily Drive.
There are several radio celebrities that air the shows. These include Jonathan Coleman on the Late Night, Trevor Lon on Technology, Peter Switzer on Finance and David Prior on Overnight. Other radio personalities include Garry Linnell and John Stanley on Breakfast, Ed Phillips on Afternoons, Tim Webster on Mornings and Kayley Harris and Nick Bennet on Drive.
